In a move that could have far-reaching consequences in Indo-US relations, the White House has unfollowed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Not just that, it has also decided to unfollow President Ramnath Kovin, Prime Minister's office and the Indian embassy in the US. This is being seen as a significant development and is being seen as an indication of the deteriorating relations between India and the US.

Till a few days ago, the White House used to follow as many as 19 Indians. Now the number has come down to 13 accounts. While nothing major has happened between India and the US in recent times and in the first week of April, India obliged the US request for the supply of Hydroxy Chloroquine. Even during the recent press conferences, US President Donald Trump has praised Modi's leadership and extolled Indo-US friendship. But, this sudden decision to unfollow PMO and President Kovind has created flutter in the diplomatic circles.

Trump is seeking re-election in November this year and has already emerged as the Republican candidate. The votes of Indian diaspora are been seen as very crucial for his re-election. Indian diaspora, which is traditionally pro-democratic, is being wooed by Trump and his team. The unfollowing has come at this crucial juncture. The political analysts and pundits are trying to make sense out of the White House's latest decision.
