Will Amit Shah Be BJP President Till January 31?
By: Tupaki Desk | 14 Jun 2019 4:37 AM GMTWhen the BJP won a landslide and gained an absolute majority on its own in 2014, what did Amit Shah do first? He launched a massive membership campaign and enrolled over 11 crore members into the party. This made the BJP the party with the largest membership in the world. The membership was made only when a prospective member made a missed call to the toll-free number. Thus, the party had the mobile phone, Aadhar Number and every detail of all its members. Of these 15 lakh members were turned into active members through a very systematic training programme.
This time too, Amit Shah has decided to take up a massive membership drive from July 31 till January 31. This means, for the coming six months, the party workers and leaders across the country would be busy making members through missed call system. They cannot make fake members in the missed call system. So, they have to work and really work. The aim is to increase the membership by 20 per cent. This means, 20 per cent new members from hitherto untouched sections would be made members.
To ensure that this is done properly, the active membership can be taken up only when 20 per cent new members are added to the unit. Only after completing the active members recruitment can a unit become eligible for organisational elections. For instance, mandal unit elections would be held only after 50 per cent of the booths in a mandal complete 20 per cent additional membership. The district unit elections would be held only after 50 per cent of the mandals complete the process. The national level organisation elections would be held only after 50 per cent of the states complete their election process. Former MP chief Shivraj Chouhan will be incharge of the membership drive.
This means, by January 31 next year, the party would have more than 15 crore members. More importantly, Amit Shah will be party president till at least January 31.
