Will AP SEC Learn From His Gujarat Counterpart?

Is Nimmagadda Ramesh working as an agent of the Opposition TDP? Is he doing the bidding of the TDP leaders? A strong section of the YSRCP feels that the actions of the state election commissioner in Andhra Pradesh are a reflection of his political bias.

Nimmagadda, who wanted to withhold elections when the situation in the state was manageable, now wants to hold them regardless of the rising cases. His hobnobbing with some key TDP leaders and a few BJP leaders has raised serious doubts about his intentions. He now wants to hold elections at any cost in utter disregard of health pandemic.

Interestingly, the pandemic situation is AP is worse than that in Gujarat. Yet, the Gujarat State Election Commission has postponed the elections. But, AP state election commissioner wants to go ahead. In AP, at least 3000 cases are being reported in AP , while in Gujarat, the average number of cases is 1000 per day. In fact, the term of 31 district panchayats, 231 taluq panchayats and 55 municipalities is ending in the second week of December. Yet the SEC of Gujarat has postponed the elections.

Interestingly, SEC Nimmagadda postponed the elections when the average daily number of cases was less than 10. Now when the daily number is above 3000, he wants to hold the elections. The general public, politicians and even health experts are questioning the rationale of holding elections for the local bodies at this juncture.
