Will Chandrababu become president-for-life of TDP now?
By: Tupaki Desk | 10 July 2022 2:02 PM GMTYS Jagan has shown the gumption to anoint himself the president for life of the YSRCP. This was done at the plenary of the YSRCP near the Acharya Nagarjuna University the other day. Though most regional parties have presidents for life, no one has shown the courage to publicly announce it. The YSRCP has crossed the Rubicon and anointed Jagan as the president for life.
Now the natural question that arises is if the TDP follows suit and announces Chandrababu Naidu as the president for life for the TDP. Why did not Telugu Desam think of this in the past? Now that Jagan has done it, will Chandrababu Naidu too anoint himself as the party president for life. In fact, Chandrababu has been the party president since 1995.
There are four regional parties in the Telugu states. They are the TDP, the YSRCP, the TRS and the Jana Sena. All the four parties practically have the same presidents from their inception. But they have the fig leaf of nominal elections to give some sanctity to the boss. YSRCP has decided to do away with this and anoint Jagan as the president for life.
As for YSRCP, YS Jagan is all in all. He is the supreme authority in the party and his word is law. But, that is not the case in the TDP. Unlike the YSRCP, there are at least three poles in the TDP. One is Chandrababu himself, the second is Lokesh and the third is Nandamuri Balakrishna. Will there be competition between these three leaders in the TDP? Let's wait and see how things unfold.
