Will Corporators Take Oath On February 11?
By: Tupaki Desk | 25 Jan 2021 4:49 AM GMTWill there be swearing-in for the newly elected corporators of the GHMC on February 11? Sources in the know are expressing serious misgivings about the swearing-in on February 11. Several corporators might absent themselves from the swearing-in programme organized at the GHMC office.
The reason? The day happens to be an Amavasya day and Amavasya is considered to be highly inauspicious. No new works are launched and no auspicious functions are taken up on that day. Several corporators feel that by swearing in on an inauspicious day, they would be facing severe difficulties in discharging their roles as corporators. A majority of the corporators may skip the swearing-in and have the programme on a later date that is convenient to them. Especially BJP corporators might skip the function.
There are also doubts as to whether Mayor and deputy mayor would be elected on the same day. Some, however, see this as a ploy to ensure that the Opposition corporators skip the meeting. If the TRS manages a quorum on that day, it would have its mayor and deputy mayor candidate elected to the positions. But, what if the BJP changes its stance and attend the meeting?
