Will FASTag fleece vehicle users?
By: Tupaki Desk | 3 Dec 2019 6:17 AM GMTIs the Fastag, meant to make travel at the toll plazas easier, going to fleece the commuters? At least some toll plazas, if not all, are withdrawing higher amounts than prescribed and one can do nothing at all to remedy the situation as the amount is automatically deducted from the user's accounts.
Usually, the toll plazas have to collect 1.5 times more than the normal fee if the vehicle is returning on the same day or within 24 hours. But, at some toll plazas, the return ticket facility appears to be unavailable. As a result, the vehicle user has to play full amount both the times. Such incidents were reported from Kalaparru in West Godavari. But at places like Kaja in Guntur, a vehicle can pass any number of times after taking a return ticket.
In places like Keesara on Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway, the amount collected is higher than the prescribed amount. According to an official handling the toll plazas, all the details are connected only to the main server and nothing can be changed locally. All these are raising doubts about the Fastag, which is now replacing the manual toll fee collection at the toll plazas across the country.
The Fastags have been made mandatory from December 15 for all the four wheelers across the country. These will automatically deduct the toll amount from the bank accounts of the vehicle users.
