Will his community back Chandrababu in Telangana?
By: Tupaki Desk | 22 Dec 2022 8:42 AM GMTNow that the TDP's public meeting in Khammam is over, there is a heated debate about what is Chandrababu Naidu's real aim in holding the meeting in Telangana, where the party only has a skeletal presence. There is also a debate whether the party would be able to regain its lost glory in Telangana.
The party is all but dead in the Telangana region. All its MLAs have joined the TRS and a significant portion of the cadre has shifted to either TRS or the BJP. The question is whether these lost cadres and leaders would come back to the TDP in the future. Highly unlikely, say those tracking Telangana politics.
Sources say that the TDP has lost the plot completely in Telangana and the major communities that are expected to support it have already built bridges with the ruling TRS. They are unlikely to move back to the TDP given the fact that the TRS is being touted as the favorite in the 2023 elections. The BC voters too would stick with the TRS and the BJP.
Political watchers also say that by launching the comeback in the Andhraite dominated Khammam, Chandrababu Naidu has actually harmed his prospects. They feel that this would give an opportunity to the TRS to brand it as a party of the Andhra migrants. At the same time, with a divided focus, there are doubts whether Cahndrababu Naidu would completely concentrate on AP, where his party has better chances of revival.
