By: Tupaki Desk | 18 Oct 2019 12:53 PM GMTWhen we heard the Liquor ban, one name comes into our mind, Late NT Rama Rao. When he established his Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and went for the campaign throughout the state one problem grabbed his attention. People drinking alcohol.
During 1980 many problems were caused by liquor. Women in huge numbers mourned the deaths of their loved ones which made NTR think about the liquor ban. When he became CM for the second time in 1994 he first signed on the bill to ban liquor throughout the state. This made people invest money in real estate, business, and daughter marriage they used to spend on liquor.
In 1997 when Chandrababu Naidu succeeded NTR he lifted the ban on liquor. The ban on liquor was imposed only for 16 months. He made liquor as a good income resource. At a point in time alcohol ruled the government. Now the situation is that the governments can’t survive without alcohol sales.
When Jagan was in opposition he too observed the problems caused by alcohol. He even mentioned in the manifesto that he will ban the liquor if he wins the election. As a part of that, he started government liquor shops and he reduced the working hours of the shops. Belt shops were canceled. Liquor shops were reduced by 20% and permit rooms were removed completely.
According to the reports, the AP government got a profit of 6222 crores for the financial year of 2018-19. This is only around 10% in the state income. It has been observed that with the liquor ban crimes and domestic violence cases were also reduced. Political analysts are saying that with the liquor ban Jagan will face only positive results, not any negative results.
