Will not interfere in the capital issue: AP High Court!
X
Amid confusion over the capital region in Andhra Pradesh, the High Court made its version clear that there is no need for further arguments on the capital region and said that the Court will not look into the capital matter.

The three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra made these comments after a bunch of petitions on the two acts that deal with the decentralisation of the development were filed with the court.

When the petitions in the matter were heard, the advocate who represented the Andhra Pradesh government had cited the findings of the Sivaramakrishnan Committee which says that the capital city should not be made between Vijayawada and Guntur as the region enjoys fertile lands.

Having said that, the government's counsel also added that, the government's decision to make changes to the Amaravati plan is an outcome of understanding various issues that are related to the capital region.

However, the lawyer representing the petitioner had countered the arguments and reminded that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had supported Amaravati when he was an opposition leader.

The advocate added that the committees have compiled the reports without taking the reservations of the farmers and sought directives from the High Court to grant benefits for the farmers under the land pooling act.

After hearing arguments of both sides, the division bench had opined that further hearing in the matter is not required and reserved the verdict. The Bench added that it will look into orders that have to be passed in the issue.

The confusion on the capital issue had intensified after the Andhra Pradesh government had withdrawn the bills that deal with the three capitals from the state Legislative Assembly. Rubbishing the opinion that the government took a backstep on the capital issue, the government said that a revised bill will be introduced in the house again.

The AP Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill, 2020 and AP Capital Region Development Authority Repeal Bills, 2020 that were tabled in the Assembly on the three capitals issue have been withdrawn by the Andhra Pradesh government earlier last year.
