Will NTR Trust Bhavans Lease Be Cancelled?

Are attempts being made to cancel the lease of the NTR Trust Bhavan in Hyderabad? Is a section working to make this prime asset go into the hands of the Telangana government? It appears so. The historic TDP headquarters, which was witness to many a historic happenings, is now a former shadow of itself.

With the state's bifurcation, the TDP had got another head office constructed for Andhra Pradesh near Vijayawada. In the 2014 elections, the TDP got just about 15 seats in Telangana and came to power in AP. Chandrababu Naidu shifted to Vijayawada and rarely visited the NTR Trust Bhavan since then. Most of the TDP MLAs, who had won in 2014, had defected to the TRS. This has greatly reduced the activity in the NTR Trust Bhavan. The press meets became rarer and meetings became sparser.

The 2019 elections were a disaster. The TDP could win only two seats and both the MLAs have defected to the TRS. Now, even L Ramana has joined the TRS. Now the TDP Trust Bhavan has no activity whatsoever. The footfalls have become scarcer. There are reports that the TDP is now finding it difficult to pay the salaries. Meanwhile, some parts of the TDP trust bhavan have been leased to a hotel, some IT offices and others. Some employees too were given quarters to stay.

Of late, differences have cropped up between the 40-odd employees. A couple of employees are said to be dictating terms. Another strong group has been fighting for her salaries. Some of these employees have reportedly petitioned KCR to cancel the lease. They have reportedly said in a complaint that the lease should be cancelled as some portions of the Trust Bhavan are being used for purposes other than the terms of the lease. A letter said to be written by some members of the staff is now doing rounds on social media. Now, fears are being expressed as to whether the TRS government will use this complaint to cancel the lease of the TDP trust bhavan.
