Will Pawan fight from a seat that returned Kapus only once in 70 years?
By: Tupaki Desk | 1 April 2022 1:11 PM GMTWhy is Pawan Kalyan planning to fight from a constituency that has fewer Kapus? Is there any special strategy? Does he want to prove a point? What is his game-plan in choosing a constituency where the Kapus could win only once in the past 70 years? These are the questions that are being asked in the wake of the reports that Pawan Kalyan would contest from Kakinada in 2024.
Sources say that though the elections are a good two years away, Pawan Kalyan has been sending enough signals that he would take on YSRCP biggie Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy. He has been criticising him and has even said that he would give "Bheemla Naik" treatment to Dwarampudi if he did not mend his ways.
But, Kakinada city has an interesting history. In the past 70 years, it returned a Kapu only once. In 1955, Mallipudi Pallamraju has won as an MLA. Kakinada has 2.55 lakh voters, of which Kapus are 28.6 per cent. Yet, Kapus could not win frm the city. Interestingly, Kapus do very well in all other six assembly constituencies under Kakinada Lok Sabha seat. Kakinada rural has Minister Kurasala Kannababu, Pithapuram has Pendem Dorababu, Tuni has Dadisetti Raja, Peddapuram has Nimmakayala Chinarajappa, Prattipadu has Parvatha Purnachandra Prasad – all Kapus. In fact, Kakinada MP is Vanga Geetha, also a Kapu.
Sources say that Pawan Kalyan is focusing on three seats – all in East Godavari district. The seats are Pithapuram, Kakinada Rural and Rajahmundry rural. Kapus are numercally influential in all the three constituencies. Jana Sena sources say that Pawan could contest from any one of these three seats.
