Will Pro-Amaravati Stand Help BJP Grow In AP?
By: Tupaki Desk | 24 April 2023 8:49 PM ISTAmravati is a sensitive issue as far as Andhra Pradesh politics are concerned. Farmers and people in the Amaravati region have been fighting for the demand to have a single capital for the state as they gave thousands of acres of land. But the ruling YSRCP wants to have three capitals for the state and is adamant on this.
The opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh have been supporting Amaravati demand and stood in solidarity with the farmers. Now the Andhra Pradesh wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party made some interesting comments on Amaravati and said that the party is bound to the capital city and is committed to this.
Andhra Pradesh BJP chief Somu Veerraju said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the capital city and the BJP is bound for this. Saying that the Centre granted funds for Amaravati city, Somu asked why the region was not developed. Why the funds were not utilised for Amaravati, Somu Veerraju asked.
As elections are one year away, Somu Veerraju making such comments raised the debate on whether this will be the election campaign of the saffron party in the state. The party is yet to open its account in Andhra Pradesh and this stand might come in handy for it.
However, the big doubt people have here is whether the stand can save the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state. Since 2019, the party has been putting in its best efforts to spread its wings in Andhra Pradesh. But none of the efforts helped the party. Allying with Janasena also did not pay off.
The AP leaders say that the party is focused on developing the state. But the Centre is behaving in a contrary way. The iconic Vizag Steel Plant is being privatized and the AP BJP has no answer to this.
On the other hand, no big institutions and investments were allotted to the state. As the Bharatiya Janata Party has no other option, the party might be stressing the pro-Amaravati stand. But we have to wait and see if the stand would help the BJP spread its wings in the state.
