Is This Congress Stalwart Joining The BJP?
By: Tupaki Desk | 25 Sep 2019 5:09 AM GMTMilind Deora is a diehard Congressman who inherited the Congress culture from his late father Murli Deora. He has been an MP from Mumbai and was the president of the Mumbai Congress Party. But, now it appears almost clear that he is planning to leave the Congress party and join the BJP. Milind, known to be a close friend of Rahul Gandhi, appears certain to ditch his friend.
There are at least two indications that he is planning to leave the Congress. When the BJP Government abrogated the Article 370, Milind Deora openly supported it. This was against the party line, where key leaders raised their voice against the abrogation. Secondly, after the Modi-Trump meet at Houston, Texas, Milind Deora not just congratulated Modi for his initiative in strengthening Indo-US ties.
Deora's tweet said: "PM Modi's Houston address was a momentous first for India's soft power diplomacy. My father Murlibhai (Murli Deora) was of the early architects of deeper Indo-US ties. Donald Trump's hospitality and recognition of Indian Americans' contributions makes us proud." He further said: .@PMOIndia's Houston address was a momentous first for India's soft power diplomacy. My father Murlibhai was one of the early architects of deeper Indo-US ties.@realDonaldTrump's hospitality & recognition of Indian Americans’ contributions makes us proud.
Modi too replied in the positive saying: "Thank You @milinddeora. You are absolutely correct when you highlight my friend, late Murli Deora ji's commitment to strong ties with USA. He would have been really glad to see the strengthening of ties between our nations. The warmth and hospitality of @POTUS was outstanding. (sic)."
Deora replied again saying: , "In my many interactions with my Democrat and Republican friends, they too acknowledge India's leadership in the 21st century."
From this Twitter thread it appears quite clear that Milind, who has been keeping a low profile after the recent defeat, is all set to join the BJP bandwagon.
