Will Smith resigns to Academy after slapping Chris Rock

Hollywood star Will Smith started his career as a stand up comedian and then found success on TV. He translated it into movies as well with big Hollywood Blockbusters like Independence Day, Men in Black franchise, I am Legend, Bad Boys franchise, Ali, Pursuit of Happyness, Hitch, Seven Pounds, I, Robot and Shark Tale.
In the last decade, he appeared in big action movies like Suicide Squad, Gemini Man, After Earth but they did not succeed as expected. He received box office success with Aladdin as Genie and Bad Boys for Life movies.
He received nominations for Best Actor from Academy for Ali and Pursuit of Happyness. But he finally won it for King Richard based on the life of Richard Williams, coach and father of legendary Tennis sisters - Venus and Serena Williams.
During the 2022 ceremony, he slapped presenter Chris Rock for making a joke on his wife, Jaden Smith. He immediately apologised while receiving the award, in his speech.
Now, he has decided to hand over resignation to his Academy membership. The latest update is that Academy accepted his resignation and decided to continue with the disciplinary action.
Will Smith in his resignation apologised to his family members, Chris Rock and global audiences. He said that he has hurt them with his inexcusable conduct.
He also said that his fans are heart broken to see him act in such a manner. He said that he will accept any verdict from disciplinary committee of Academy for his actions.
The meeting of the committee will be held on 18th April and a decision will be taken about Will Smith's actions by the Academy.
