Will Sweeping Floors Bring Power To Congress In Up?

At this rate Priyanka Gandhi will either become a brand ambassador for either Swachh Bharat or for the Aam Aadmi Party, whose symbol is broom. She has again picked up the broom and cleaned up the surroundings. First she did it in the Sitapur guesthouse where she was lodged by the UP police. Videos of Priyanka sweeping the floor were made to go viral.
Now she has gone to a colony inhabited by the people belonging to the scheduled castes and swept the floor there. Sonia was barefooted. She also offered prayers to Rishi Valmiki at the Dalit colony. But, will all these convert into votes for the Congress in Uttar Pradesh? Will this mean the Congress will emerge as a strong force in the state that is going to polls early next year?
Not likely, say analysts. UP had the last Congress CM way back in the late 1980s and did not come to power on its own since then. The party does not have any organisational structure of its own. Both BSP and SP have shunned any association with the Congress. Given all these, her floor-sweeping is likely to end up as a mere photo-op, say analysts.
