Will TDP end Yanamala's 40-year political domination in East Godavari?
By: Tupaki Desk | 12 Sep 2022 8:14 AM GMTWill it be the end of the road for one of the senior most politicians of the Telugu Desam Party this time? Will he be asked to make way for others? Is the TDP top boss thinking of completely sidelining this leader and his family members from the East Godavari politics? We are talking about the former finance minister and TDP stalwart from Tuni - Yanamala Ramakrishnudu!!
Yanamala Ramakrishnudu has been inalienably linked to both the TDP and the Tuni assembly constituency. He contested for the first time and won in 1983. Since then, he had an uninterrupted success run from Tuni till 2004. In 2009, he was defeated for the first ever time by Raja Ashok Babu of the Congress. In 2014 and 2019, Yanamala became the MLC and made his brother Yanamala Krishnudu the candidate from Tuni.
However, Krishnudu lost in both 2014 and 2019. Now, Yanamala is said to be contemplating to make his daughter the party candidate from Kakinada rural. However, sources said that TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh has vetoed this proposal. He is also said to have proposed that any candidate who lost thrice consecutively will not be given the ticket in 2024.
This only means that the Yanamala family may not be given a ticket to contest from Tuni as Yanamala lost once and his brother twice. Sources say that both Lokesh and Chandrababu believe that Yanamala had encouraged groupism in the East Godavari district TDP and is responsible for the party's defeat in the 2019 elections. In fact, former home minister Nimmakayala China Rajappa has lodged several complaints against the Yanamala family
Sources say that Yanamala has already been informed that his family would not be given a party ticket in the next assembly elections. Sources also reveal that Yanamala is upset, but can do pretty much nothing about it. Sources say that 2024 could be the end-of-the-road for the Yanamala family, which has dominated East Godavari politics for almost 40 years. It is also revealed that the party is looking for a young and altogether new leader to contest from Tuni.
