Will TDP Merge Into BJP In Andhra Pradesh?

Is BJP planning to merge TDP into it in Andhra Pradesh? The rumour mill is abuzz with reports that the BJP has asked the TDP to merge itself into it so that the BJP can emerge as an alternative to the ruling YSRCP in the state. In fact, BJP Rajya Sabha MP GVL Narasimha Rao has at least twice advised the TDP to merge itself into the BJP. These statements came after Chandrababu Naidu openly expressed the opinion that walking out of the NDA and breaking the alliance with the BJP were huge mistakes that led to the party's downfall.
The BJP, which has got just 0.93 per cent votes in the recent assembly elections, feels that the TDP has no future and that Chandrababu might not contest the 2024 elections. In addition, the grassroots level cadre is fast moving into the BJP to protect itself. So, the TDP may not be fighting fit for the next elections. Hence, the party might accept the offer and merge into the BJP. Hence, the BJP has repeatedly said that there was no question of re-admitting the TDP into the NDA. Instead, it can merge itself into the BJP.
Many see this as a mind game by the BJP to force key leaders of the TDP to join the BJP. Already, many second and third level leaders see no future for the TDP in the next elections. Given this situation, the BJP feels that it would stand to gain if the leaders and cadres join the party making TDP all the more weak. In case the whole party merges, it is like hitting a jackpot as all the anti-incumbency votes will fall into its kitty.
