Will Tdp Put Up Only A Nominal Fight In Badvel Bypoll?
By: Tupaki Desk | 4 Sep 2021 1:28 PM GMTThe TDP's moves for Badvel's betray a confusion that was seen during the Tirupati bypolls. The party has hurriedly announced a candidate who has lost by over 44000 votes in 2019. In 2019, YSRCP's Dr Venkatasubbaiah had defeated TDP's Obulapuram Rajasekhar very convincingly. Yet, when Badvel is facing bypoll on account of Dr Venkatasubbaiah's death, the TDP has put up the same candidate again..
It is quite clear that the party has come to the conclusion that it is going to lose the elections. Hence, without much thinking or strategising it is fielding the same candidate even before the notification was issued. Badvel is part of Kadapa, which is the home district of YS Jagan. Political observers feel that the TDP should have waited for some more time in announcing its candidate. It should have waited till the YSRCP announced its candidate. In the 2019 elections, Venkata Subbaiaha polled 95482 votes and the TDP candidate polled 50748 votes. But, without taking into account the past performance, Chandrababu has given ticket to Rajasekhar again.
If sources are to be believed, Venkata Subbhaiah's wife Dr Sudha has already launched her campaign and is working hard to woo the voters. She has the sympathy and the support of the voters. At the same time, the recent local body elections have shown that the YSRCP has a clear advantage in Badvel. Sources say that the TDP is in the fray only to prove its existence and that the victory of the YSRCP is a foregone conclusion.
