Will the new APCC chief be from that community?

Finally, the Congress party is planning to become active in Andhra Pradesh. The party has called for a broad-based meeting of the party workers on December 21 and 22 at Vijayawada. All the key leaders of the party, who have been in hibernation for the past two years, have been invited for the meeting. If sources are to be believed, Rahul Gandhi might address the meeting via online and even announce the new team, including the new PCC chief.

After the state was bifurcated in 2014, the people of Andhra Pradesh have punished the Congress extremely severely. They rejected it outright in the elections. The party could not win even a single seat in both 2014 and 2019. Raghuveera Reddy, who was the PCC chief, has retired and the baton was passed to Shailajanath. But Shailajanath is not active and has not even bothered to conduct a meeting of the party.

As a result, the party is in a moribund state with so signs of a possible recovery. Though party affairs incharge Oomen Chandy visited the state, it did not revive the party. Now Rahul Gandhi himself is said to have decided to something in AP. Seeing signs of recovery in Telangana after the new PCC chief was brought in, he is planning to do the same thing in AP.

Sources say that Rahul Gandhi wants someone from the Reddy community to lead the party in AP. He wants a gutsy leader, who can challenge the might of YS Jagan and take on wily Chandrababu. He is said to be scouting for such a candidate.
