Will This Wedding Season Too Be A Washout?

After long last, wedding season seems to be back in the Telugu states. After two successive wedding seasons were virtually washed out due to the pandemic scare, the couples are now getting ready to tie the knot. The current wedding season would go on till January 8 and thousands of marriages would be solemnised during this phase.

Normally, April-May is considered the best wedding season for the Telugu states. But, Corona scare and the lockdown have forced at least 70 per cent of the weddings postponed. The remaining weddings, though performed, were very low key with only a small number of guests and low-profile rituals. In July, there were muhurthams for weddings. But only 50 per cent of the weddings were performed while the remaining were postponed citing lockdown rules. Now the next wedding season is beginning from November 8. With the pandemic stabilising a bit, most of the prospective brides and grooms are getting ready for making the vows and tying the knot.

Those involved in handling wedding related events say that at least one lakh weddings could be performed in the upcoming seasons. Even these weddings would be low key in view of the second wave of the pandemic. Though considerably subdued, there would be some demand for the officiating priests, function halls, musical bands, caterers and event management organisations.
