Will TRS Soon Lose These Municipalities?
X
A silent revolution of sorts is brewing in the 17 municipal councils around the GHMC. While most of these councils are in the hands of the ruling TRS, which has manufactured a majority by engineering defections. But, with the back-to-back defeats of the TRS in Dubbak and the GHMC, these defectors are not looking to go back to their mother party.

There are 7 municipal corporations and 21 municipal councils in Rangareddy and Medchal districts and the TRS wanted to make a clean sweep of them. However, the party did not get the required numbers in Tukkuguda, Adibatla, Badangpet, Mirpet and Pedda Amberpet municipalities. The TRS engineered defections from the Congress to grab these municipal chairperson posts.

In Badangpet and Mirpet, it used the ex-officio members to get its nominees elected as municipal chairperson. In Tukkuguda, the BJP had 9 councillors. Normally, it should have its chairperson. But, the TRS used ex-officio members and independents to gets its nominee elected municipal chairperson. Now, the very chairperson is unhappy with the TRS and is trying to join the BJP. Similarly in Pedda Amberpet, the Congress had 13 of the 24 seats. But, TRS engineered defections to grab the mayor's post. The deputy mayor, a defector, now wants to go back to Congress. Similarly, in Adibatla, the Congress had the required numbers, but the TRS encouraged defections from the Congress and made congress councilor Harthika Goud municipal chairperson. She has now rejoined the Congress.

If sources are to be believed, more municipal councils are likely to move out of the TRS kitty. Two election defeats have made these leaders to go into a rethink.
