Will Uber Charge More If Phone Has Less Charging?
By: Tupaki Desk | 15 April 2023 4:51 PM ISTUber is one of the leading cab service firms. A serious allegation has hit the company now. A media outlet based out in Belgium made serious allegations against Uber. It said that Uber is charging more if customers who booked the cabs have less charging on their phones. Saying that they did a study on this, the media outlet said the allegations were proved. It said that the company charged six percent more from customers than usual charges when the charging on the phone is less.
Going by the news carried out by the concerned media outlet, two different cabs were booked from the Uber app from the same location. While one phone has full charging, the other mobile has just 12 percent charging. The cab booked from the mobile phone with 84 percent gave a bill of 16.6 euros, and the cab booked from the phone with 12 percent charging got a charge of 17.56 euros. The bookings were made with iPhone and Android devices and the same charges were made.
However, the Uber company refuted all the allegations. The representatives of the cab service company said that they can't know the percentage of charging on the mobile phones of the users who book cabs. Talking about the differences in the charges of cabs, the company said that the prices will differ based on the time the cabs were booked. Uber said that it will not decide the charge of the cab as per the charging percentage on the mobile phones of the users.
On the other hand, back in 2016, a former Head of the Finance Department of the Uber company in an interview said that the management found that users are ready to pay a higher charge for the cabs when the battery percentage on the mobile phones is very less.
On the flip side, the Uber company is giving another version of the story. The representatives of the company said that it is not possible to know the battery percentage of users' mobile phones and based on that they cannot charge money. But the allegations made by the media outlet raised many eyeballs.
