Will welfare schemes bring Jagan back to power? What does history say??

Every political party brings in some welfare scheme or the other to woo the voters and win the elections. But, do these welfare schemes really get the votes and ensure a victory? Well! If one goes by history, an election victory and welfare schemes are not related. The parties in power have lost despite implementing welfare schemes. A cursory glance at the history of the last 20 years reveals this astonishing truth.
Late NTR had brought the famed Rs-2-a-kg rice scheme and it became the talk of the whole country. But, NTR lost the 1989 elections, he himself lost from Kalwakurthi in Telangana. In 1994, the then Congress CM Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy brought the Rs 1.90-a-kg rice scheme. But, the Congress went out of power. In 1994, Chandrababu had won the elections without any sops. In fact, he aligned with a resurgent BJP and rode back to power. In 2004, he offered a slew of sops, but could not prevent the downward spiral of the party.
In 2004, the YSR era began in the undivided AP. Late YSR had brought in several welfare schemes like the Arogya Sri, Fees reimbursement and others. However, he barely scraped through in the 2009 elections. The YSR victory was mainly because of the Praja Rajyam and the Lok Satta party. They had split the anti-YSR votes to ensure a Congress victory. After YSR's death, Kiran Kumar Reddy did introduce some welfare schemes, but the state got divided and the Congress lost power in both the states.
In 2014, Chandrababu Naidu came to power. He too had introduced several welfare schemes. He had even introduced the direct cash benefit schemes to directly benefit the beneficiaries. He had even introduced the famed Pasupu Kumkuma scheme to woo the women voters. Despite the Pasupu Kumkuma, Chandrababu lost badly in the 2019 elections. He was left with just 23 seats. All his schemes for women and Dwcra groups were of no avail.
Today, YS Jagan has introduced the ambitious Nava Ratnalu. What will happen to him in 2024? Will he be able to buck the trend or will all his schemes go down the drain? Let's wait and see.
