Following the spread of the deadly virus, Italy became stillstand resulting in many Indians stranded in the country. Fearing the fatal Covid-19 Indians were air-lifted from there.

Indians were shifted from Italy to Milan and to Rome from there and brought back to India from there. In this rescue operation, a woman pilot of the special Air India flight played a crucial role who witnessed showers of praises and applause for her role.

The special flight which has air-lifted 263 Indians was flown by Captain Swati Raval and co-pilot Captain Raja Chauhan. With this daring step, she has become the first female pilot to take part in this rescue operation.

India's civil aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri took to Twitter to praise the heroics of the pilots in the rescue operation.

"When the going gets tough, the tough get going. The crew of @airindiain Boeing 777 led by Capt Swati Raval & Capt Raja Chauhan responded to the call of duty & displayed exemplary determination by airlifting 263 Indians, mostly students, stranded in Rome," his tweet read.

"Extremely proud of this team of @airindiain, which has shown utmost courage and risen to the call of humanity. Their outstanding efforts are admired by several people across India. #IndiaFightsCorona," Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
