Women dominate politics in North Andhra

Greater Vizag Municipal Corporation has earned a unique distinction. Women are at the top In GVMC and are occupying several key positions. This has happened for the first time after NTR era when women occupied key positions.
GVMC mayor is a tribal woman as the seat is reserved for them. The deputy mayor too is a woman. Not just that. Even the municipal corporation commission is a woman. Interestingly, out of the 39 ZPTC members, a half are women. Of the 670 MPTCs, as many as 335 are women. In fact, YSRCP government and Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy are giving lot of emphasis on giving key posts to women. Even the mayor and the deputy mayor of neighbouring Vizianagaram corporation too are women.
The last time women were given such importance was during late NTR’s reign. When he was in power, NTR gave two MLA seats to women. After this, Jagan is the only leader who has emerged as a protagonist of women politicians. Remember even YSR gave six ministerial positions to women when he was the chief minister
