Women power grows in Telangana BJP
By: Tupaki Desk | 29 March 2023 3:41 PM ISTThe BJP in Telangana is facing a strange situation. While some of the male politicians are wary of fighting the coming elections, several women politicians are aspiring for party tickets to contest the elections. Some women leaders have already begun preparing ground in the constituencies of their choice. Many woman leaders claim that state president Bandi Sanjay has assured them a party ticket.
For instance, former Hyderabad mayor Banda Karthika Reddy is all set to contest from Secunderabad assembly constituency. She is said to have already begun the ground work in Secunderabad constituency. If she gets the party ticket, she could be clashing with deputy speaker Padmarao Goud. Similarly, Union Minister Kishan Reddy's wife Kavya Reddy is said to be planning to contest from Amberpet, the constituency that her husband represented for three times. She is said to have indicated her preference to party's top leadership.
Firebrand leader Rani Rudrama Reddy, considered a camp follower of Bandi Sanjay, is planning to fight the election from Ibrahimpatnam. Similarly, Akula Srivani, who is currently a corporator in the GHMC, is planning to contest from Maheshwaram. The BjP did well in all the segments of Maheshwaram assembly constituency that come under the GHMC.
As for the Sanatnagar constituency, there is stiff competition between two women candidates. Former state mahila morcha chief Akula Lalitha and Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya's daughter Bandaru Vijayalakshmi are vying for the ticket. As of now, both are trying their luck.
Sources say that several more women leaders are now aspiring for tickets. Sources say that Bandi Sanjay too had said at a recent Mahila Morcha meet that preference would be given to the women candidates in the coming elections.
