World Cup Disaster: BCCI Planning Massive Changes For T20 Format?

The cricket governing body in India the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) has been under severe criticism since India was knocked out of the World Cup tournament. Indian cricket fans are fuming at the body for focusing only on the Indian Premier League(IPL). Fans are shooting a lot of questions on the team selection and management as they wonder why young bowlers were not played in the tournament.

Amid this, the BCCI is said to be in plans to keep the seniors out of the short format so that young players will be dedicated to the short format. The star players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are 35 and 34 respectively.

India has two years in hand to prepare for the next World Cup and the BCCI is said to have decided to not let the chance go. While making the seniors stay out of the format the young players will be groomed. It is also said that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were asked to decide how they want to go ahead.

If we have to take anything from the reports all-rounder Hardik Pandya would be made the skipper of the format and Hitman Rohit Sharma might be asked to leave the format. We need strong hitters and attacking batsmen in the T20 format like how English batsmen Jos Buttler and Alex Hales did against us.

It is a long time commitment and players who will be dedicated to playing the T20 format alone are expected to play the format for at least three to four years and the seniors might not be fit for this.

Another big issue we faced in the T20 World Cup is the failure of openers. We need to address this and look for other options. Young players like Sanju Samson, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, and Deepak Hooda might get groomed for the T20 short format.

It is known that it is close to a decade since India lifted an ICC trophy. Back in 2013, India won the Champions Trophy under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Since then the knockout matches have been heartbreaks for Indian fans.
