Chief Minister's Sister Turns Down Padma Shri

Much to the shock of NDA Government, Gita Mehta rejected the Padma Shri award as she felt the timing of the announcement isn't right. Though she felt honoured that Government of India thought she is worthy of a Padma Shri, The Writer told she must decline it as presenting the award ahead of the 2019 general elections might be misconstrued.
There could be an impression that Gita Mehta was awarded Padma Shri by the Centre to lure Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik ahead of the elections. The Writer doesn't want to offer any scope for such a possibility.
Naveen Patnnaik congratulated Padma Awardees from Odisha but skipped his Sister's Name.
Gita Mehta penned books such as 'Karma Cola', 'A River Sutra', 'Snakes & Ladders' and 'Glimpses Of Modern India'. The 76-Year-Old directed and produced 14 documentaries.
