Aadhaar cardholders there's an important update in the rules. Providing the wrong 12-digit biometric id number can attract a fine of Rs 10, 000. Hence, individuals need to be careful while quoting Aadhaar card numbers.

The biggest convenience has been in terms of filing income-tax returns as the taxpayer is now allowed to use his/her 12-digit Aadhaar card number instead of PAN to file returns. But not many know that furnishing incorrect Aadhaar details attract a hefty fine of Rs 10,000.

IT returns, Bank Account, Mutual Funds, Bonds of Rs 50,000 have the option of providing Aadhaar card number instead of PAN. The authorities came to know that some of them are giving the fake Aadhaar numbers. So, now the IT department will fine a hefty fine for those who have given the wrong Aadhaar number.

IT officials have revealed that this fine is being imposed under Section 272B of the IT Act 1961. Similar penalties were imposed when the PAN number was wrong in the past. Now the same rule has been restored to Aadhaar.
