Ahead of the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League(IPL), the organisers held a mini auction giving a chance for the IPL teams to release the player they don't want and buy players whom they think can come in handy. The mini-auction was held on Friday in Kochi.

Young all-rounder Sam Curran who was with the Chennai Super Kings was released for the auction and Punjab team surprised many by spending as much as Rs 18.50 crores. This is the highest for any player in the history of the IPL tournament.

The all-rounder can generate quick pace with his swing bowling and can also bat well. He plays for England in international cricket and played for CSK in the IPL. He was groomed well by the CSK and he played under former Indian team skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Many parameters are considered while buying any team. The performance the players give in international games and IPL is seen, and Sam Curran has been doing well in both formats, and no wonder that he was bought for such a big amount.

Looking at the other big buys, star Australian player Cameron Green was bought by Rs 17.5 crore, the second highest buy, followed by star all-rounder Ben Stokes. The Chennai Super Kings team which left Sam Curran bought Ben Stokes for 16.25 crore.

Looking at other buys, Nicholas Pooran was bought for Rs 16 crore followed by Harry Brook(13.25 crores), Mayank Agarwal(8.25 crores),Jason Holder(5.75 crores), Mukesh Kumar(5.5 crores) and Kane Williamson(Rs 2 crores).
