YS Jagan brings EWS reservation for upper castes

With the Dalit votes firmly in its kitty, the YSRCP is now focusing on garnering the voters from the forward castes or the other castes as the government records say. The YSRCP has now issued a GO on Wednesday night to enforce 10 per cent reservations for the economically weaker sections.
10 per cent reservations are now being given in education and employment for the economically weaker sections. CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy realised that there is a pent up anger among the people, especially the youth belonging to the upper castes about most of the government benefits going only to the reserved categories. This could blow up in the face of political parties sooner than later. Hence based on the feedback he got from various sections of the society, he has released the GO.
According to the GO, those whose annual income is less than Rs 8 lakh per annum, would be considered EWS. A third of the EWS benefits would be passed on to women. Interestingly, this EWS quota was brought in by the Modi government in 2019 itself. However, Chandrababu gave half of this to Kapus as part of appeasing them during the election period. But, the Modi government rejected this proposal to lock stock and barrel.. Now Jagan is implementing the same to placate the upper castes in Andhra Pradesh.
Jagan's calculation is that the upper or forward castes too will vote for him because of the reservations. This way, he would end up pocketing both the Dalit as well as the upper caste votes. Electorally this will benefit him.
