YSRCPs Hindupur dispute reaches Jagans table
X
Anantapur is one of the very few districts in AP where there are not many group rivalries in the ruling YSRCP. In most constituencies, the party leadership has been able to work out arrangements to keep the waring leaders in good humour, but one constituency continues to torment the high command of the YSRCP. It now appears certain that unless YS Jagan himself intervenes, the situation cannot be retrieved.

The constituency in question is Hindupur. The party is cleaved into two warring factions here. Senior and loyal party worker Navin Nischal leads one group. The other is led by MLC and former cop Mohammed Iqbal. Navin Nishal, who lost the 2014 elections, worked hard for 2019, but the party preferred to give ticket to ex-cop Iqbal. But, Iqbal lost the election.

After coming to power,Jagan made Iqbal an MLC and gave Navin a nominated post. But, that did not solve the problem. The supporters of both the leaders are at war with each other. The Navin Nischal group even met in neighbouring Karnataka and told the high command that Iqbal be asked to lay off Hindupur . Meanwhile, both the groups bitterly clashed in full view of the media in the press club.

District incharge and senior minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy tried to mediate in the issue. He called both the leaders and their supporters to Tadepalli and held discussions. However, there were bitter arguments even at Tadepalli. Unable to mollify both the groups, he has referred the dispute to YS Jagan himself. It remains to be seen how Jagan solves this knotty dispute between two strong leaders in Hindupur.
