YSRCPs Vizag Yatra To Take On TDPs Amaravati Yatra

Now the war for capitals will get more intense in Andhra Pradesh. To counter the farmers' rally in support of Amaravati as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh, another Padayatra is being planned. This will be in support of Vizag as the administrative capital. This appears to be every inch a political tit-for-tat.

If the Amaravati Padayatra is covering four districts – Guntur, Prakasam, Kurnool and Chittoor), the pro-Vizag padayatra will cover three districts (Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and Vizag). If the first yatra is covering nearly 70 villages, the second one is set to cover 34 assembly constituencies. Both are aimed at creating awareness about the need to make their respective cities the capitals of AP. While Amaravati farmers' yatra wants Amaravati to be the only capital for the whole state, the second yatra is supportive of three capitals.

The Vizag Yatra is being planned by intellectuals, social activists and civil society organisations and these will go round the three north Andhra villages to drum up support for Vizag as the administrative capital. Sources say that the ruling YSRCP is behind the yatra. The yatra is likely to put the opposition parties in a spot of bother as they cannot directly oppose Vizag and seek votes in North Andhra. At the same time, they cannot support Amaravati and lose their support base in their own boroughs.

It is an open secret that the TDP is behind the Amaravati Padayatra. Now both the TDP and the YSRCP will fight a proxy war using farmers and the civil society activists as pawns.
