Employees cannot forget 2023 given the stars it showed them. After the Covid impact slowed down, the companies went for mass layoffs leaving many people unemployed. Across the sectors, this was the trend. However, the tech sector saw more layoffs and firings compared to others. Even the tech giants went for layoffs.

Employees entered 2024 with a lot of hopes that things would be different. But the reality was different. 2024 already hinted at how it would be as thousands of employees were sacked in just one month.

As per the trade experts, more than 30,000 employees across the firms were sacked in January alone. Companies across the world laid off more than 30,000 employees last month which is very concerning.

Layoffs.fyi said that in January over 30k employees were removed and the companies include Google, Microsoft, and UPS. UPS is at the top position in layoffs having accounts for around 40 percent of the total layoffs.

Companies like Amazon, YouTube, TikTok, Discord, ebay, and Pixal went for layoffs which accounts for big numbers as per the experts.

To draw a comparison between 2023 and 2024, 2,62,595 employees were removed in 2023 while more than 30,000 employees were sacked in January alone. With this, we can understand the threat posed by the layoffs this year.

Despite the layoffs, the experts say that the employees need not worry too much. This means that technologies like AI and others are booming and those who can have their hand on the technology can have relief as they will get more opportunities and they can see growth.

The experts also say that employees who are well versed in the jobs that have high demand need not worry about anything as they were hired in big numbers despite layoffs and the slow pace of hirings.
