By: Tupaki Desk | 2 April 2026 3:46 PM ISTThese are extremely challenging and tough times for international working population as the AI revolution has resulted in a severe depletion in job market. At this point in time, let us have a look at the possible avenues that employees can look at when it comes to job expectations.
Recent conversations with workers in the city show that people outside traditional employment can often earn as much, or even more, than office employees.
An auto driver reportedly takes home around ₹60,000 per month after expenses. A waste collector working only a few hours each morning earns nearly ₹2 lakh monthly, while a pani puri vendor claims a monthly income of ₹1.5–2 lakh.
Even carpenters and plumbers, depending on demand, can make anywhere from ₹25,000 to over ₹1 lakh, with small social media creators earning up to ₹1 lakh without large-scale fame.
Experts say these examples challenge the societal perception that “formal jobs” are inherently more secure or respectable. Many independent workers operate with fewer overheads, flexible schedules, and substantial income potential, blurring the line between social respect and financial success.
The emerging question, In today’s economy, does a title or office ID determine respect, or does actual earning power matter more? This shift in perspective may prompt salaried professionals to rethink how they define success and stability in their careers.
