HC Shocker To Kodi Pandalu, But Will It Happen?

The Sankranti season is particularly prevalent in the Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh and one of the common tradition traditions here is obviously the famous Kodi Pandalu (hen fight). This has been going on for several decades and is not likely to slowdown in the future either.

However, the matter is frequently in the jurisdiction of the court as this comes under animal cruelty and also charge of gambling.Incidentally, the matter again came to the jurisdiction of the Andhra Pradesh High Court and they had a pretty strong verdict in this matter today.

The High Court pointed out that the Kodi Pandalu and other Gambling activities must be stopped at any cost and added that there is no leeway for the same. The court instructed the authorities to stop these activities at any cost and even implement 144 section if needed. It is evident that the Andhra Pradesh High Court is very serious in this case and has called for strict measures against the same.

However, this is a very common practice in these areas and they even bring a lot of crowds to the Godavari region which in turn contributes to the revenue. Historical speaking, the police department has been rather complacent about these activities at large. But considering the latest court order, we have to see if there would be any change in course of action.
