It was not a good time for India at the recent Olympics. The Indian Table Tennis team reached the quarters and this is seen as the best-ever performance for the sport. A 24-year-old player gave her best performance and won many praises. In what could be a shocker the player called it quits.

24-year-old Indian table tennis player Archana Kamath took everyone by surprise with her big decision. She decided to call it quits. To focus on further studies she is said to have taken the call.

As per the national media, Archana Kamath spoke to her coach after the exit in quarters at the Olympics. It is said that the player saw no chances of winning a medal in the next games and considering the financial issues too she decided to call it quits.

Reports say that her brother is working at NASA and he often encourages Archana to pursue higher studies. Following the same she is believed to have decided to quit the sport and focus on higher studies.

Archana Kamath put the criticism to rest with her best performance. When she was selected for the Olympic Games a controversy erupted. But she gave a strong response with her performance and helped India have a memorable stint and reach the quarters.

No matter what the table tennis player’s decision is a big shock. 24 is not an age for quitting any sport. We see players playing in their late 30s too. Take Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as examples. While Virat is 35 Rohit Sharma is 37 and at 37 Rohit won a World Cup.
