India Wins Asia Cup: But What’s The Drama!

India completed a remarkable run in the Asia Cup tournament by emerging as the winners by beating Pakistan in the final game. India’s victory in the Asia Cup 2025 was supposed to be a proud and celebratory moment, but it turned into controversy due to a trophy presentation drama.

After defeating their opponents and lifting the title, the spotlight shifted from cricket to politics and administration.

The problem began when Indian players refused to accept the trophy directly from Mohsin Naqvi, the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. Reports say the BCCI was not comfortable with Naqvi handing over the trophy.

As a result, the ceremony was delayed for nearly an hour, and finally, Naqvi walked away with the trophy and medals. The BCCI then requested that the trophy be sent to the ACC headquarters in Dubai, from where it could be forwarded to India. However, the trophy is still in Dubai, and no confirmation has come from the ACC.

Some officials had suggested inviting a neutral representative, such as someone from Bangladesh or the Emirates cricket board, to handle the presentation, but Naqvi reportedly insisted it was his responsibility. What should have been a celebration of India’s cricketing success has now been overshadowed by politics, with the issue likely to reach the ICC later this year.
