The election fevers had gripped the country. Before the much-awaited 2024 Lok Sabha polls, a few states will go for the general elections. Political experts say that the elections in these states might predict who would win the Lok Sabha elections and come to power at the Centre.

Amid this, a sensational report was released that sheds light on the assets of the legislators across the nation. The report grabbed everyone's attention as it highlights how rich the sitting MLAs are in various states and Union Territories. Combined their assets are thousands of crores.

The report released by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) & National Election Watch (NEW) mentioned sensational details of the assets owned by the MLAs. The assets of 4001 sitting MLAs are around Rs. 54,545 crores and this translates to more than the annual budget of a few states.

The data was compiled by analyzing the election affidavit filed by the MLAs before the elections. The average assets of the MLAs are more than Rs 13 crores. The report also gave birth to a debate of how rich the legislators are in various states and union territories.

Looking at the data to see MLAs from which party has more assets, the Bharatiya Janata Party is at the top followed by the Congress party. While the assets of the BJP are ₹16,234 crore, Congress MLAs have assets worth ₹15,798 crore. The ruling party in AP YCP's MLAs have ₹3,379 crores worth of assets, followed by DMK in Tamil Nadu and AAP in the national capital Congress. Combined, BJP and Congress MLAs account for a major share of assets with a share of 58.73%.

The MLAs in Karnataka are the richest in the country. There are 223 MLAs in the state and their assets worth is ₹14,359 crore. The ADR report said that this is the highest in the country. Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh are in second and third positions.

Tripura is at the last spot on the list. The assets worth of the MLAs is 90 crore. The state has 59 MLAs. Mizoram and Manipur are in second and third place with 260 crore and 225 respectively.
