A deadly mass shooting early on Sunday in Austin, Texas, left at least three people dead and 14 others injured in one of the worst acts of violence in the city’s recent history.

The attack unfolded shortly before 2 a.m. outside Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden, a popular bar on West Sixth Street in the downtown entertainment district, a crowded area near the University of Texas-Austin.

Police say the gunman fired from his vehicle and then on foot, striking patrons and pedestrians before officers shot and killed him at the scene. Three of the wounded are reported in critical condition at local hospitals.
