By: Tupaki Desk | 27 Nov 2024 6:01 AM GMTOf late, there have been countless debates about the kind of impact that social media has on young kids. There is even a growing commotion that kids below 18 years of age must not be allowed to use social media as there is a lot of obscene and hate content here.
In tune with this, the government of Australia has done something remarkable as they have mandated a bill that bans kids under 16 years of age from using social media.
This bill makes it clear that social media platforms in the country must not provide social media accounts to kids below 16 years of age. This bill was passed in the senate just today and it will be coming into effect immediately.
The Senate has made it clear that the social media platforms that are active in the country must strictly practice the new norm and there are not two ways about it.
This bill was outrightly strengthened in the senate as the majority of the members sided with its approval.
Will this potentially instigate the Indian authorities to also mandate something similar in our country? Is this a needed measure to censor the hate and persuasive content that is now being found on social media and could potentially pollute the minds of young kids? We will know soon.
