When we talk about the richest Indians Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani come to our mind as they too compete with each other. But there is an unsung rich personality in the country who donates a major share of his wealth to various causes making him one of the biggest donors.

Azim Premji is a celebrated personality given his philanthropic work. He is the chairman of Wipro, which is one of the biggest tech giants in the country. He was dubbed as the richest man in the country by Forbes.

His family had a cooking oil business. Due to his father’s demise, he had to look after the business. Under his leadership, the business spread its wings and was diversified. In a game-changing decision, he entered the software sector. Wipro shined big and even had clients in the United States.

Azim Premji is known for his philanthropy and his family donates a major share of their wealth. As an example of this, they donated as much as Rs 9,713 crore in the financial year 2021. He donated two-thirds of his wealth to philanthropy work.

Through the Premji Foundation, his family carries out philanthropic work. Back in 2019, he donated 67 percent of the company’s shares to the foundation. In just five years the shares' value increased by around three folds.

He was once the richest man in the country between 1999 to 2005. As he has been donating his wealth to various causes his wealth has been reducing. The amount he donated so far accounts for more than that of Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani.

He is 79 years old now and he is still doing the good work. Recently his Azim Premji Foundation signed a MoU with the Karnataka government on the mid-day meals schemes. Under this, the foundation will provide eggs to students every day in the state-run schools. Lakhs of students will be the beneficiaries of this.
