If one expected that actor-MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna will get more importance now that TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu is behind the bars and his son and party national general secretary Nara Lokesh is busy in Delhi mopping up support, one would be sadly mistaken.

Despite his antics in the AP legislative assembly where he twirled his mustache and slapped his thigh in a show of defiance, the TDP thinking heads believe that the political action committee of the party should have more seasoned politicians than theatrical personality like Balayya Babu.

The newly-constituted Political Action Committee, which is meant to spearhead the party programme and protests in the wake of Chandrababu’s arrest, lists Balakrishna at No 6. This shows that he is one among the top 15 decision makers of the party now. This also means that Balayya Babu does not enjoy any special privileges.

The list has senior politico Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, AP unit chief Atchennaidu, senior leader Ayyanna Patrudu, MA Sharief, Payyavula Kesha, Vangalapudi Anitha and others. Leaders like Atchen Naidu, Ayyanna Patrudu and Vangalapudi Anitha are well-known firebrand leaders known for their lung power, while Yanamala and Payyavula offer a touch of moderation.

But, the interesting part is that Balakrishna is just a member of the group. His daughter Brahmani is billed for a more important role. The party is looking towards her to re-launch the stopped Yuva Galam yatra. She has already begun consultations with party leaders and even Jana Sena leaders on the nitty gritty.
