April 1 is an important day in India because it marks the beginning of a new financial year. On this day, banks focus on closing their accounts for the previous year and preparing for the new one. Because of this, many bank branches remain closed for customer services.

In 2026, the situation is similar. As per the RBI holiday calendar, most banks across several states will not provide regular services on April 1. This is mainly due to financial year closing activities. Bank employees stay busy with internal work like balancing accounts and checking transactions.

States like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Delhi will see bank branches closed for public services. Customers visiting banks on this day may not get help for deposits, withdrawals, or other services.

However, not all states follow the same rule. In states like Mizoram, Sikkim, Nagaland, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, and Himachal Pradesh, banks are expected to remain open. So, customers in these regions can visit branches and complete their work.

Even if banks are closed in your area, there is no need to worry. Online banking services will continue to work as usual. You can transfer money, check your balance, and pay bills using mobile apps or internet banking. ATMs will also be available for cash withdrawals.

April also has a few more bank holidays. On April 2, banks in Kerala may remain closed for a local observance. On April 3, most banks across India will be closed for Good Friday. Later in the month, April 14 is a holiday in many states for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti. Some states may also have holidays on April 15 and 16 due to regional festivals.

So, it is always better to check the holiday list before visiting a bank. If you have important work, try to complete it in advance to avoid any inconvenience.
