War Effect: Beer Prices To Go Up In Telugu States?
Costs for raw materials such as glass bottles, paper cartons, labels, and tapes have surged, with glass bottles alone up by nearly 20 percent.
By: Tupaki Desk | 27 March 2026 10:51 AM ISTThe Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been some of the biggest consumers of alcoholic products, and this could take an interesting time now.
Beer lovers in Telangana and across India may soon face higher prices and tighter availability as major breweries prepare to raise costs. The Brewers Association of India has indicated that rising production expenses are putting pressure on beer companies.
Costs for raw materials such as glass bottles, paper cartons, labels, and tapes have surged, with glass bottles alone up by nearly 20 percent. Transportation and packaging costs have also increased, contributing to an overall rise of about 12 – 15 percent in production expenses.
To offset these costs, breweries are seeking government approval to increase retail prices. Preliminary proposals suggest that each case of beer could become around ₹20 more expensive, depending on official clearance. The price hike is expected to apply across both premium and standard beer brands.
In addition to cost pressures, global disruption including ongoing conflicts affecting supply chains have limited access to essential inputs like gas used in production.
This could further restrict supply if production slows. Major players, including AB InBev and Carlsberg, which together account for roughly 85 percent of India’s beer market, are actively negotiating price adjustments to ensure continued operations and steady supply.
Officials are expected to announce the final decision on the new pricing in the coming days, leaving consumers to brace for more expensive beer in stores and pubs. This is due to the prevailing war situation in Iran and understandably so as well.
