The kind of rental expenditures that are being established for the working community in metro city like Hyderabad and Bengaluru have been through the roof. There is this constant demand to bring under control and let us have a look into the same.

A Bengaluru resident’s blunt social media post about the struggle to find a modest 2BHK home has struck a chord across the city, triggering a wider conversation about soaring rents and the pressure on tenants.

The user described the search as a “nightmare,” claiming landlords are now quoting rents as high as Rs 70,000 for standard two bedroom apartments in popular tech corridors.

The post quickly went viral, with hundreds of users sharing similar experiences from areas such as Whitefield, HSR Layout, and Bellandur.

Many blamed the sharp spike in rentals on sustained demand from IT professionals, limited housing supply in job centric neighborhoods, and landlords capitalizing on the city’s tech driven migration. Some users said rents had nearly doubled compared to pre pandemic levels, making it difficult for middle income families and young professionals to afford decent housing.

Interestingly, several commenters linked the situation to ongoing uncertainties in the IT sector. A few suggested that widespread layoffs in technology companies might cool rental demand and bring prices down, though others called this a harsh and unrealistic expectation.

Real estate observers say the issue reflects a classic demand supply mismatch in India’s tech capital. With Bengaluru continuing to attract talent and startups, housing affordability is emerging as a growing concern for residents navigating the city’s rental market.
