Winning the BMC elections is generally considered as a top priority job for the ruling government as it gives complete control over the Metropolitan city of Mumbai. This time, the elections are almost entirely in favour of the NDA alliance.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation election results announced today have delivered a clear verdict, reshaping Mumbai’s civic political landscape in a big way.

Counting for all 227 BMC seats concluded earlier today, with the BJP led Mahayuti alliance crossing the majority mark and emerging as the single largest force in the country’s richest civic body.

As per the latest numbers, the Mahayuti alliance has secured around 118 seats, comfortably above the halfway mark of 114, while opposition parties were left trailing. This outcome effectively ends the three decade long dominance of the Shiv Sena faction led by Uddhav Thackeray over the BMC, marking a historic political shift in Mumbai.

Voter participation was encouraging, with turnout recorded at nearly 53 percent, one of the highest seen in over thirty years for BMC elections. The strong turnout reflected high public interest, especially in key local issues such as infrastructure, roads, water supply and governance transparency.

Across major wards, the BJP and its allies performed strongly, while Congress, UBT Shiv Sena, MNS and other parties managed pockets of resistance but failed to mount a citywide challenge. Several high profile wards witnessed tight contests and surprise outcomes.
