There is no other topic in politics that is as controversial as freebies. The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre has been opposing them and is a critic of them. The Union government also made its stand clear on freebies and said that continuing freebies is not good. It said the same in the Supreme Court.

However, a few other parties countered the stand and said that they were in favour of the freebies. The parties said that they were providing welfare to the people and not giving freebies. Economical experts raised many concerns about the financial burden the freebies cause.

Amid this, the BJP changed its stand on the freebies and announced many schemes. Madhya Pradesh is among the poll-bound states and both the BJP and Congress and serious about the win. While the BJP wants to retain power, the Congress wants to dethrone the BJP.

Both the ruling and opposition parties are going all out to woo the voters by announcing the freebies. The BJP led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Madhya Pradesh said that the amount given to beneficiaries under the Ladli Behna Yojna will be increased to Rs 3000.

Right now the beneficiaries are given Rs 1500 every month and the same was announced to be doubled. The Madhya Pradesh government is already spending thousands of crores on the scheme. If the amount is doubled then the amount spent will also be doubled.

Gas Cylinder is also promised at Rs 500. There is harsh criticism that the BJP reduces the prices only before the elections. Adding fuel to this, the saffron party announced that the gas cylinder prices will be brought down to Rs 500. Keeping this debate aside, what the party announced comes under freebies.

It is a big shock that the BJP which often criticises freebies and opposes them announced the same for the voters eyeing the upcoming Madhya Pradesh polls. The elections are slated to commence on the 17th of this month for all the 230 Assembly seats in the state.
