By: Tupaki Desk | 10 May 2025 9:22 PM ISTThe summer season in India is generally marked with the intense and highly exciting IPL season every year. The same to be the case this year also as the IPL action started on March 22, and had been progressing steadily till a couple of nights ago.
However, things went South after the game between Punjab and Delhi got called off on May 8 due to security concerns in the border regions. The crowds were asked to leave the stadium immediately, and the players were also transported out using special trains.
It was later communicated by the BCCI that the IPL has been suspended for a period of seven days due to the prevailing situation.
Coming to the topic, it can be understood that the cricket lovers in the country had been indulging in IPL action for the last 40 odd days. The tournament was also gaining momentum with just a few more league matches, left and the super interesting playoff matches on the horizon.
However, the prevailing situation in the context of the India-Pakistan warring situation has meant that IPL has been suspended due to security reasons. Consequently, the cricket fans in the country had to spend a rather boring night, which was not expected even a few days ago. after several weeks of intense cricketing action, experiencing this unexpected void is a tough one.
But nevertheless, the primary point here is that the nations interests and public safety comes above all else. Considering the current complex situation, it is not safe and right to hold such a massive public event like the IPL. So, the decision to suspend the tournament, indefinitely is certainly a measured and deliberate move.
There are reports that the England cricket board and the UAE have approached the BCCI to fold the reminder of the IPL in these respective countries. But the BCCI has kept this decision on hold and a decisive call will be taken at a later date.
