Information is power and those who possess the same are not only powerful but also invincible. This is the reason why hackers are often feared by not just individuals but also systems. Hackers often gather sensitive data and sell it on the dark web. All of this is under discussion as a massive data leak is said to have happened in India.

As per the media reports, details of not less than 81.5 crore Indians appeared on the dark web. Data of crores of people getting leaked is not a big issue and raises several questions on the safety of personal data.

If we have to take anything from the information claimed by these media reports, the data gathered by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) of Indians reached the dark web and was put on sale. This says that the information of the concerned people is not safe.

The alleged news started creating a sensation when the hackers reportedly advertised on social media that they possess the personal information. With this, the news is said to have grabbed the attention of the media houses.

It is said that the personal information of Indians was derived from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). During the COVID vaccination drive, every person enrolled themselves with the ICMR for the vaccines.

Information like Aadhaar numbers, names, phone numbers, addresses, and passports in some cases were gathered by the ICMR to book an appointment for the vaccines. Now the same information is said to have been compromised.

Given the seriousness of the issue, the premium agency Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) might step in to probe the matter and gather crucial information on the data hack which is dubbed as the possible biggest Data Leak in the country to date.
